Scholarships/Grants/Incentive Awards

Through our partner, the Ocala Film Foundation, Silver Springs International Film Festival provides incentive awards, scholar-ships to area students in the media arts and classroom grants to provide and upgrade necessary resources for Ocala, Marion County, FL schools, as well as educational opportunities throughout the festival.

The scholarship/grant/incentive breakdown for 2016 includes:

  • Ocala, Marion County video production teachers may apply for a $2500 classroom grant through the Public Education Foundation of Marion County (PEFMC) Grants for Great Ideas for supplies and equipment.
  • Free submissions for all local Ocala, Marion County, FL student/instructor work to be considered for screening during the upcoming Festival.
  • Two $2000 scholarships are offered, through PEFMC, to any Ocala, Marion County, FL students furthering their studies in film/media arts and production.
  • The Manhattan Film Institute and the OFF offer a $1,000 scholarship for one Marion County student to attend the MFI summer session. More info and how to apply at: www.ManhattanFilmInstitute.com.
  • Opportunities are available for Ocala, Marion County, FL students to attend the SSIFF as a field trip. Schedule your trip and experience independent films and how a film festival works. Students can also earn volunteer hours by working with the festival.
  • The “Fresh Squeezed” Award for Best Florida Made Feature. In addition to the “statue”, this Award includes a cash prize of $7,000; reimbursement (up to $500) of travel/lodging expenses to attend the 2016 SSIFF.
  • The “Fresh Squeezed” Award for Best Florida Made Short. In addition to the “statue”, this Award includes a cash prize of $1,000; reimbursement (up to $250) of travel/lodging expenses to attend the 2016 SSIFF.
  • Best Student Short. In addition to the “statue”, this Award includes a cash prize of $1,000; reimbursement (up to $250) of travel/lodging expenses to attend the 2016 SSIFF.
  • SSIFF offers seminars featuring professionals from every area of filmmaking. These seminars are scheduled throughout the festival and they are free to everyone.

The SSIFF is doing its part to encourage filmmaking in the Sunshine State.
